Need to send something to the newsletter? Our email address is: newsletter@bacatya.com

We’re starting to feel like the Maytag repairman – so please feel free to send pet pics, recipes, trivia answers, nasty letters to the editor – no wait scratch that last one – What was I thinking?!?!?!?

From the Desk of Bacatya

I hope all have been reading our monthly newsletter.  As you have noticed we now place our monthly staff meetings within the newsletter so each of you as members can keep up to date on any changes made.  This month we want to welcome Nijazo3 to the staff.  She has been a member for quite awhile, playing mostly in our late nighters tourneys.  Nij has brought much laughter to those of us that play in the late night tourneys.  Both her and She need that coffee fix and Nij has a man behind her that makes many play-by-play decisions for her.  I know she is looking behind her at this moment too!   Nij was an Admin. on our sister league and has experience in all the wonderful tasks Admin have to do on a daily basis.  Nij will be running mostly morning tourneys, so jump right in and support her by playing in the 11a.m. tourneys.

We will be starting a buy and sell for Canastanuts only.  It will be a silent auction. You will need to have a photo of your item for sale if you wish to participate in our Buy & Sell.  The person winning the bid will be responsible for the cost of shipping.  We thought that it would be nice to sell our unwanted things through a silent bid.  I also think this will be exciting to do each month.  If we get enough to participate in this we would be able to place items up to be bid on, on a weekly basis.  To start this off we will have the staff place items up for sale, to see how this goes & to work out any problems.  I am excited to get this going and feel this is something many will enjoy.  First we get rid of unwanted items and people we know will be purchasing them.  Also, you will have something that belonged to one of your fellow Canastanuts.   Happy Bidding.

With Love Always,

     BACATYA

you see them all the time , you even know what they mean........but do you know how the current system got started?.........in 1968 mpaa felt the need to replace a system in place since 1921 due to the changing times . the first ratings were as follows.....G- general audiences ......M -mature audiences .......R -restricted ( no one under 16 without an audult( later changed to 17) ).......X - no one under 17.  the M was later changed to pg and pg -13 . the X was changed to nc-17..........an interesting side note with regard to the X rating. an unknown prono film maker felt 1 X wasnt good enough and started using 3 x'es .......XXX........the rating most accostiated with audlt fare ........and it stuck !( the mpaa does not use this rating , nor supotes  it in anyway)

Tax News by Mandy

Don't miss out on your stimulus payment

Are you wondering what to do to ensure that you receive your economic stimulus payment which the IRS will begin to send out this May? In most cases you will not have to do anything extra. If you are eligible for a payment, all you have to do is file a 2007 tax return and the IRS will do the rest.

However, recipients of Social Security, certain Veterans' and Railroad Retirement benefits and low-income workers who don’t normally need to file may have to take steps to insure receipt of the stimulus payment.

If you are in this group and normally would not be required to file a tax return, you need to file a 2007 tax return this year to receive an economic stimulus payment. The return must show at least $3000 in qualifying income.

Qualifying income includes Social Security benefits, certain Railroad Retirement benefits, certain veterans’ benefits and earned income, such as income from wages, salaries, tips and self-employment. While these people may not be normally required to file a tax return because they do not meet the filing requirement, the IRS emphasizes they must file a 2007 return in order to receive a payment.

The IRS has released a sample version of a Form 1040A that highlights the simple, specific sections of the return that can be filled out by people in these categories to qualify for a stimulus payment.

For more information see IRS Fact Sheet FS 2008-16 Stimulus Payments: Instructions for Low-Income Workers and Recipients of Social Security and Certain Veterans’ Benefits available on www.irs.gov.

Be aware that identity thieves are already pushing scams involving the stimulus payments. At least one telephone scam is making the rounds using the proposed rebates as bait. IRS news release IR-2008-11,”IRS Warns of New E-Mail and Telephone Scams Using the IRS Name; Advance Payment Scams Starting,” has more details.

Remember that for the genuine IRS Web site be sure to use .gov. Don't be confused by internet sites that end in .com, .net, .org or other designations instead of .gov. The address of the official IRS governmental Web site is www .irs.gov.

Mary Mayhem

Two ladies talking in heaven:

1st  woman : Hi! My name is Wanda.

2nd woman : Hi! I'm Sylvia. How'd you die?

1st woman : I Froze to Death.

2nd woman : How Horrible!

1st woman : It wasn't so bad.  After I quit shaking from the cold, I began to get warm & sleepy, and finally died a peaceful death.  What about you?

2nd woman : I died of a massive heart attack.  I suspected that my husband was cheating, so I came home early to catch him in the act.  But instead, I found him all by himself in the den watching TV.

1st woman: So, what happened?

2nd woman : I was so sure there was another woman there somewhere that I started running all over the house looking.  I ran up into the attic and searched, and down into the basement.  Then I went through every closet and checked under all the beds.  I kept this up until I had looked everywhere, and finally I became so exhausted that I just keeled over with a heart attack and died.

1st woman: Too bad you didn't look in the freezer --- we'd both still be alive.

Cat-Toy Treasure Hunts!

Does your cat have an array of toys she enjoys? Maybe your cat has one particular toy that is hers and hers alone, and she has made it quite clear that nobody is to so much as lay a finger on it. Or maybe you're scratching your head as you read this because you can't remember where your cat's toys are, or whether she even has any.

Toys are an important part of your cat's life. She doesn't need a truckload of them, but she should have a modest selection that can be rotated on a regular basis to prevent boredom.

Even the simplest toys -- a fuzzy fake mouse -- can become enticing if you set the stage. We used to have lots of those fake mice laying around the house just gathering dust. It wasn't until I started strategically arranging and hiding them that my cats began to show some interest. I placed one in an empty tissue box for them to bat around the living room. In the kitchen, I tossed one in an empty paper bag.

My cats have come to expect and enjoy our little treasure hunts. Each day before I leave the house, I hide ping-pong balls, fake mice, crinkle balls, and other simple little toys in secret places around the house. It's a fun adventure for them while I'm gone, and I always enjoy coming home to see whether they've discovered all my hiding places.

So dust off those toys in your cat's toy basket ... and create a treasure hunt!

THIS MONTHS WINNER IS ....

THIS FAT CAT BELONGS TO ADMN_TERRI

AND HERES WHAT SHE HAS TO SAY ABOUT HIM...

Alex is a cat we got when I friend of mine had to move. He was this big when we got him - HONEST! My friend named him Alex but my son renamed him Big Al. Nobody believes us when we try to tell them how big he is. He is the sweetest most laid back cat on the planet. He is best buds with our dog and even eats out of the dog's bowl.
