Newsletter Editor – Mstery56 Volume 1 Issue 1
Welcome to our first edition of the Canastanuts newsletter! Our goal is to be both informative and entertaining. The newsletter will offer several regular features which we hope you will look forward to each month. The initial portion will consist of some sort of blathering from your friendly neighborhood newsletter editor. Fortunately, there will also be exciting contributions from other members of the Canastanuts staff as well as vitally important announcements and fascinating information. OK, maybe I’m prone to exaggeration, but you get the picture.
Now Hear This
MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that I have your attention – She and Phud will each be sponsoring a monthly feature but they need your help. Do you have a delicious recipe that you could share with the rest of us? You know how much we all like to eat! Send your favorite recipes to Phud and she will select one each month to be featured in the newsletter. How about that adorable pet you’re always talking about? Send a pic to She and your pet could be the Canastanuts Pet of the Month! The Newsletter will come out on the 5th of each month (OK this month was an exception – but hey we’re just getting started.). She and Phud will be sending me the winners the week before so be sure to get your entries to them before the last week of the month. Oh yeah – I promised you money. She and Phud have generously agreed to award 100 bucks to each month’s winners! That’s ladderbucks – not dollars – but you knew that right?
If you are not receiving the newsletter – please check to see that the email address you have on your profile is accurate and up-to-date. Just go to the Canastanuts main page and click on My Account which is in the left column. I know what you’re thinking –“Hey dummy, if I’m not getting the newsletter, how am I going to see this announcement?” The newsletter will also be posted in the message forum. Of course, it will be a hot topic of conversation in the lobby too, so you might ask somebody what the heck they’re talking about.

Recipe of the Month by Phud
Since we don’t have one yet I’m going to use my editorial privilege to share something really easy I like to make.
Hidden Mint Cookies
Recipe courtesy Paula Deen
14-ounce package chocolate mint wafers
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon coarsely chopped walnuts or pecans, or
enough to cover top of cookies
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Slightly grease a cookie sheet. Place slices of sugar cookies on sheet, about 2 to 3 inches apart. Top each with a chocolate wafer. Cover wafer with another slice of cookie dough. Brush dough with a beaten egg. Press nuts into top of dough. Bake for about 10 minutes.
Minister’s Corner by Scott
A Scent Of Roses:
They say most people have judged whether someone is worth spending time with; in only a matter of seconds. We determine all we think we need to know before we have hardly blinked an eye. We tend to be attracted to those who are much like ourselves. I find this rather odd in that we get rather bored easily when we are alone. If we get bored with ourselves then shouldn't we find someone different to prick our interest? I am glad that God gave me more than a passing glance. He looked further than the surface to see who I am. I wonder how many good friends we have let slip away simply by brushing them off as not our type. Lord help me to look further than the outside of a person and help me to have wisdom to accept the difference in people. Give me patience to establish a relationship before I cast it aside. Amen.

Things My Mother Never Told Me (but I wish she had)
We’re all busy people but we like to support Canastanuts by entering as many tournaments as we can. Sometimes this creates a problem. If you are playing in a tournament and need to get up from the computer for a minute, please be considerate and let your opponent(s) know by typing BRB. Often people are left wondering whether you are having computer problems or something worse. Also, please limit the number of times you leave the table and the length of time you are gone. Just a reminder that the following is posted on the main page under Tournament Rules:
* allowed 3 MIA'S per tournament. BRB's 2min each...and only 2 brb per game. Total of 3 per tournament
Are You Kidding Me?
As a public service, I am listing some newly discovered diseases listed in a bulletin from the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta.
Yahooitis – You are innocently enjoying a game of canasta when you are suddenly and rudely booted from the room and the lobby. People who suffer from this disorder frequently experience additional frustration trying to get back in. There is no known cure.
Yahooooooooooooooooooooooooo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dystypopia – The inability to type more than two or three words in a row without a typo. This disease is highly contagious and spreads rapidly.
Red 3 Magnetism – The unexplained ability to consistently get three or four red threes. Although scientists have been trying to research this for years, little is known because people with this syndrome are reluctant to give away their secret and insist they don’t want to be cured.

Fun Fact of the Month
The name for Oz in “The Wizard of Oz” was thought up when the creator, Frank Baum, looked at his filing cabinet and saw A-N, and O-Z, hence “Oz.”
